I am glad that I have the chance to participate in the World Games in Kaohsiung Foreign Language Tour Guide Training Course held by Kaohsiung Culture Bureau. During the sixty-hour training, I not only made many new acquaintances who have the same enthusiasm to promote our hometown, Kaoshiung, to foreign friends but also acquired a lot of precious knowledge about it in class.
Being residents born and growing up in Kaohsiung, many people believe that no others can know this city better than themselves. However, it is easy for the native residents to neglect some things because they are “too familiar” with the place they live for their whole lives. Actually, I am the one who was born and grew up in Kaohsiung but now realizes knowing so little about this city after participating in the course. Thanks to the course, I am lucky to have learned deeply and widely about my city and re-explore the diversity of Kaohsiung from its history and development process.
A sixty-hour course is really not enough for us to know Kaoshiung completely, but it has been a good start for us. Being qualified volunteer foreign language tour guides during the World Games in Kaohsiung in 2009, we still have a long way to go. And I believe what we, all the participants, are going to do is to keep going on filling up with more knowledge and keep in close touch for sharing experiences.
Dear partners, lets go ahead hand in hand and be full prepared for promoting Kaohsiung.
